Lecture Service

The Sunday 'Lecture Service' is an hour long service that includes meditation and an inspirational talk on the teachings of Parahamansa Yogananda. There are usually two services at 9 & 11 am. View this year's scheduled Sunday Service Topics.

Inspirational Service and Prayer Circle

The Thursday evening 'Inspirational Service and Prayer Circle' is an hour long service that includes meditation, an inspirational talk on the teachings of Parahamansa Yogananda and a Prayer Circle during which the healing techniques of Paramahansa Yogananda are practiced.

Satsanga (Questions & Answers)

'Satsanga' (literally 'fellowship with truth') is an hour long question and answer service occurring on the third Thursday of each month. The lecturer answers questions previously submitted in writing. If you have a question, you may submit it in the designated box in the Temple foyer, or through our online form.

Weekday Morning Meditation

This early morning meditation for SRF members occurs daily on Tuesday through Friday from 7:15 - 8:15 am. The meditation is preceded by practice of the 'Energization Exercises' taught by Paramahansa Yogananda.

Group Meditation - 1 hour (guided)

On the first Friday of each month, the first half of the two hour meditation is a guided meditation.  The meditation leader will keep the group together in the practice of meditation techniques, affirmations, chants, or prayers.  These guided meditations are especially beneficial to those new to meditation as in a more tangible way the meditative power of the group can help all to stay focused on the Divine.

Group Meditation - 2 hours

This group meditation occurs every Friday evening and is preceded by practice of the 'Energization Exercises' taught by Paramahansa Yogananda.  Longer periods of silent meditation are interspersed with devotional chanting.

Please note that the Temple doors close 5 minutes after the meditation begins.

Group Meditation - 3 hours

This group meditation occurs every Sunday evening and is preceded by practice of the Energization Exercises' taught by Paramahansa Yogananda.  Longer periods of silent meditation are interspersed with devotional chanting and kirtan (Indian musical accompaniment).

Please note that the Temple doors close 5 minutes after the meditation begins.

Meditation Introductory Class

This hour long class is scheduled several times during the year after the 11:00 am Sunday Lecture Service and presents the basic concepts of meditation.

Meditation Techniques Review Class

These hour long review classes are scheduled several times during the year after the 11:00 am Sunday Lecture Service and present the basic concepts of meditation.

Hatha Yoga Class

This series is designed to help you tap into your inner well spring of health, youth and peace and propel you towards your New Year’s resolutions.  Class 1: Letting Go, January 18th 3:00 PM -  Step into the New Year by letting go of the beliefs and habits that have been hindering the way you use your body. Self-Realization Fellowship Lessons Study Class

This is a weekly evening class focusing on the contemplative study of the Self-Realization Fellowship Lessons. The classes, when scheduled, are held in the Temple on Wednesdays at 7:30pm.

Sunday School

Sunday School is held concurrently with the Sunday 'Lecture Services'. It is held at 9:00 am for children ages 3 to 10 and at 11:00 am for children ages 3 to 14.  For more information, visit the Sunday School office on Sunday mornings or leave a message at (310) 454-4114, ext. 149.

Family Room

For parents with infants and toddlers, the 'Family Room' is open during the Sunday morning and Thursday evening services. The room has a video monitor for viewing the service, and a play area for the children.

Teen Group Meetings

On Sundays at 11:00 am (concurrently with the Sunday 'Lecture Service'), teens from 15 to 18 years old gather with the teen leaders in the Temple couryard outside of the Sunday School office. The group then walks to their designated meeting place for meditation, instruction, and spiritual discussion.

Young Adults Group Meetings

Young adults (ages 18 to 39) congregate twice per month on Sundays after the 11:00 am 'Lecture Service', typically in the Special Events Room of Temple.  There they meditate together and have open discussions concerning issues relevant to their age group.

Temple Day of Service

This is a monthly work day beginning with a short meditation and ending with a delicious vegetarian lunch. In these work parties individuals have an opportunity to directly serve at the Temple on various projects such as cleaning and maintenance, and setting up for events. Wear modest sports or work clothes (no shorts, tank tops, or midriff tops, please).  Closed shoes are recommended.  Please bring a monetary donation as your lunch contribution.

Friendship Tea

On the 1st and 3d Sunday of each month, after the 11:00 lecture service, the Temple courtyard houses the 'Friendship Tea' where refreshments are served and good company abounds.

Docent-led Lake Shrine Tour and Temple Tours

A Docent Talk and Guided Meditation will begin at 3:00 pm on Sundays in the upper courtyard; 30 minutes in length, highlighting the history and special features of the Lake Shrine.

Conducted Retreats

Self Realization Fellowship monastics conduct a guided weekend retreat for men and women on the Self Realization Fellowship teachings and meditation techniques.  Contact the Retreat Registrar at (310) 459-4740 for further information.

Kriyaban League Meetings

This monthly meditation and discipleship class is open to Kriyabans who regularly serve at the Lake Shrine  (Kriyabans are those who have been formally initiated into the Kriya Yoga technique of meditation and who regularly practice the technique). The two hour evening meeting is held in the Temple on the 4th Tuesday of the month.

Ministerial Services

The Lake Shrine is available for weddings, christenings and memorial services on certain Saturdays of the month. Ministers are also available for private consultation. Contact the Lake Shrine during the week for further information.
